Veloda browser extension — privacy

The extension collects nothing, stores nothing about you, and sends nothing off your computer.

Where it connects

It communicates with exactly one address: http://127.0.0.1 — the Veloda application running on the same machine. Nothing is transmitted to Veloda the company, to any server of ours, or to any third party. There is no analytics, no tracking, no advertising identifier, and no remotely hosted code.

What it handles, and where it stays

• The address of a file you download. When you start a download, the extension passes that address to the Veloda app on your machine so the app can fetch it instead of the browser.
• The cookies your browser would send to that address. A file behind a login is served to your authenticated session; without those cookies the app would save a login page instead of your file. They are read for that one host, at that one moment, and go to 127.0.0.1 and nowhere else.
• Media stream addresses found on a page. Kept in your browser's own storage and dropped when the tab closes.
• Your settings — the port, and whether interception is on — in your browser profile.

What it never touches

Page content, form fields, passwords, browsing history, and any site you are not downloading from. The extension has no content script and does not read the pages you visit.

Why it asks for broad site access

A download can come from any site, and the extension cannot know which in advance. Site access is used to observe request addresses and to read cookies for the single host a download is being taken from — never to read page content.

Removing it

Uninstalling the extension deletes everything it has stored. There is nothing held anywhere else to delete.
